Project Details

USAID Advancing Nutrition is the Agency’s flagship nutrition project, led by JSI Research & Training Institute, Inc. (JSI), and a diverse group of experienced partners. Launched in September 2018, USAID Advancing Nutrition implements and provides technical support to nutrition interventions across sectors and disciplines for USAID and its partners. The project’s multi-sectoral approach draws together global nutrition experience to design, implement and evaluate programs that address the root causes of malnutrition. Committed to using a systems approach, USAID Advancing Nutrition strives to sustain positive outcomes by building local capacity, supporting behavior change and strengthening the enabling environment to save lives, improve health, build resilience, increase economic productivity and advance development.

In India, USAID Advancing Nutrition Project aims, through nutrition sensitive approaches, to directly reach at least 50,000 women, adolescent girls, and children from socio-economically disadvantaged families that have been negatively impacted by COVID-19 in Assam State. Beyond that, knowing that women play a key role in nutrition, the project hopes to support the empowerment of rural women to increase their access to economic opportunities. Finally, being a multi-sectoral nutrition project, it will promote partnerships with the government and private sector to ensure broad buy-in and sustainability. This partnership effort will also extend into establishing a community of practice, or learning platform, for the exchange of knowledge and best practices around nutrition-sensitive agriculture approaches to improving diets and nutrition.
