Project Details USAID Advancing Nutrition is the Agency’s flagship nutrition project, led by JSI Research & Training Institute, Inc. (JSI), and a diverse group of experienced partners. Launched in September 2018, USAID Advancing Nutrition implements and provides technical support to nutrition interventions across sectors and disciplines for USAID and its partners. The project’s multi-sectoral approach draws together global nutrition experience to design, implement and evaluate programs that address the root causes of malnutrition. Committed to using a systems approach, USAID Advancing Nutrition strives to sustain positive outcomes by building local capacity, supporting behavior change and strengthening the enabling environment to save lives, improve health, build resilience, increase economic productivity and advance development. In India, USAID Advancing Nutrition Project aims, through nutrition sensitive approaches, to directly reach at least 50,000 women, adolescent girls, and children from socio-economically disadvantaged families that have been negatively impacted by COVID-19 in Assam State. Beyond that, knowing that women play a key role in nutrition, the project hopes to support the empowerment of rural women to increase their access to economic opportunities. Finally, being a multi-sectoral nutrition project, it will promote partnerships with the government and private sector to ensure broad buy-in and sustainability. This partnership effort will also extend into establishing a community of practice, or learning platform, for the exchange of knowledge and best practices around nutrition-sensitive agriculture approaches to improving diets and nutrition. Purpose of the Assignment: JSIPL, under project USAID Advancing Nutrition, is seeking to hire a part-time consultant who can support and/or lead the development of the gender strategy and support the USAID Advancing Nutrition team to integrate gender considerations into nutrition-sensitive, social and behavior change (SBC), and womenled business opportunity development activities. The consultant will work closely with the project team in the state of Assam to implement below mentioned indicative scope of work. Scope of Work: Task 1: Consult with the USAID Advancing Nutrition team on the finalization of the Gender in Nutritionsensitive Agriculture and Dietary Diversity programming in Assam – a Strategy, as well as facilitating the development of the detailed implementation plan (DIP) for integrating gender considerations across the USAID Advancing Nutrition India project. This task will culminate in the development of a DIP. Task 2: Facilitate a training to the USAID Advancing Nutrition and its implementing partner, SeSTA, on gender equality and women’s empowerment, key gender considerations in the implementation of USAID Advancing Nutrition considerations, and principles of Do No Harm. Task 3: Co-lead the implementation of the gender strategy and detailed implementation plan with USAID Advancing Nutrition to local community actors, WSHGs, PGs, government actors, target households, private sector actors, and other stakeholders to implement activities outlined in the gender strategy. This task will culminate in a final report of the activities implemented. Task 4: Contribute to USAID Advancing Nutrition learning on gender mainstreaming in nutrition-sensitive activities, development of women-led business opportunities, and SBC activities. This will culminate in the contribution to USAID Advancing Nutrition’s learning agenda and quarterly reports. The scope and activities of this activity will be updated during the completion of DIP in January 2023. Other details: A planning meeting on this assignment will be held in Guwahati in December 2022 – in the second/third week to plan out the details. Field travel required to three project districts as per the need. The project districts are Tinsukia, Barpeta and Goalpara in Assam. The consultant is required to provide a report every month to the PD. Travel arrangements to project districts will be made by the project team as per JSIPL travel policy. Training event costs and arrangements will be taken care by JSIPL. Consent of the beneficiary, if any required, will be obtained by the project team. Any other activities as part of this assignment will be taken in discussion with the Project Director. Any product/deliverables created under this agreement will have JSIPL and USAID branding guidelines. The guidelines will be shared in the beginning of the assignment. Qualification and Skills required: Graduate/ Post Graduate in Social Work/ Anthropology/ Social Science/ Gender based studies or similar fields. At least 5 years of experience in gender-based studies/projects with adult/adolescent nutrition and/or livelihood. Relevant technical knowledge, skills and extensive work experience in gender and women’s empowerment in nutrition, nutrition-sensitive agriculture, market systems development, livelihood development and/or food systems. Excellent writing in English and communication skills experience in projects of a similar nature. Knowledge of Assamese language will be preferred. Experience in providing similar Consultancy and excellent track record of completion of tasks according to timelines. Local candidates from the state of Assam are encouraged to apply.
