![]() Job Title Legal Case Manager Position Reports To Head- Anti Child Trafficking Program Division Operations Department Programs Unit Anti-Child trafficking Programs Location Kolkata Next up Manager Senior Director – Program Direct Reports 0 Indirect Reports 0 Financial Accountability Primary Purpose of Job The purpose why the position exists (various roles of the position) RESPONSIBILITIES: The position requires that the Consultant be able to fulfil the following responsibilities: Manage the online Reporting & Referral System of thee project and ensure appropriate and adequate response to all reported incidents of sex trafficking and other SGBV from Assam and West Bengal Operate an online Case Management process to channelize legal, MHPSS and reintegration services to victims/ survivors of sex trafficking and other SGBV Develop and implement legal strategies to enable victims/ survivors of sex trafficking and other SGBV to access justice, including their entitlements this includes preparing their for witnessing, trial and obtain victim compensation; Manage legal case work to ensure successful prosecution of human trafficking and other human rights violations Conduct legal research, formulate training framework and conduct legal training for adolescent girls, boys, men and other stakeholders Liaison with key government ministries and departments and support state coordinators in advocacy work; Network with other Civil Society Organizations for advocacy Provide periodical monitoring data, impact stories to M&E team to engage with donors and other stakeholders Key Deliverable 1: Manage the online Reporting & Referral Services and Case Management application § Manage the online Reporting & Referral (R&R) platform of the project and ensure that all the reported incidents of sex trafficking and other SGBV are appropriately and adequately responded to; § Provide legal guidance to field teams to handle the reported incidents of Ensure formal registration of crimes in the incidents of sex trafficking and other SGBV in accordance with law; § Negotiate with police to ensure that they respond to reported incidents of sex trafficking and other SGBV as per the law; § Manage the online CASE MANAGEMENT process to ensure that victims / survivors of sex trafficking and other SGBV are provided with legal aid, MHPSS and reintegration services; § Compile, maintain and provide monitoring data of cases managed to M&E team every month; § Provide impact stories to M&E team to be able to engage with donors and other stakeholders Key Deliverable 2: Develop & Implement Legal Strategies / legal case work § Develop and implement key legal strategies for the project; § Ensure formal registration of crimes in the reported incidents of sex trafficking and other SGBV; § Provide support to field teams by mobilizing police and other agencies to rescue the victims of sex t trafficking; § Set goals, strategies, and outcomes for prosecution for sex trafficking and other SGBV cases managed by the project; § Monitor the progress of prosecution of the cases managed by the project; § Provide legal assistance to survivors/victims of sex trafficking and other SGBV by drafting and reviewing court petitions, in conjunction with PP; § Represent survivors and victims of sex trafficking and other SGBV at the Trial courts and High Court level. § Ensure perpetrator accountability in sex trafficking and other SGBV cases by closely with Public Prosecutors and other stakeholders in the justice system. § Assist survivors of sex trafficking and other SGBV to file applications for victim compensation and support their in the hearings conducted by DLSA; Key Deliverable 3: Legal Research, Training and Reporting § Initiate / support legal research to be conducted in partnership with academic institutions for the purpose of advocacy; § Prepare IEC materials for various stakeholders on legal procedures; § Design curriculum, plan and execute legal training for adolescent girls, boys, men, etc; § Identify active members from adolescent girls groups and train them to be bare-foot legal counsellors; § Conduct training needs assessment for police and other agencies in the criminal justice system dealing with sex trafficking and other SGBV § Design /adapt curriculum and training plan in consultation with police, SCPCR and DCRT for agencies in the criminal justice systems and support field teams to conduct such trainings; Key Deliverable 4: Networking with other partners and Liaison with key Government ministries and Criminal Justice System and advocacy § Liaising with key government agencies such as Police, SCPCR, SCW, DCRT/ SCPS, etc and mobilize their participation and support in/to project programs; § Represent WV in trainings/consultations organized by government and other NGO stakeholders. § Support project team in conducting district / state level advocacy campaigns; § Carry out any other additional assignments as mutually agreed upon by the Consultant and WV. Act. · Analyzing criminal cases and identifying gaps in the implementation of criminal procedure. · Building and managing partnerships. · Understanding and implementing rights – based development strategies and projects. · Navigating relationships in professional settings. · Demonstrating initiative, self-motivation and problem-solving skills; and · Demonstrated ability to successfully set tasks and accomplish project goals with minimal supervision. Knowledge & Qualifications (the specific qualifications and knowledge required) · A Bachelor’s/ Master’s degree in Law. · Valid Bar Council of India (BCI) registration with AIBE qualification · Minimum litigation experience of 2 years with experience in criminal side · Legal knowledge and experience on ITPA Act, POCSO Act, D.V. Act, JJ Act, BL Act and other criminal law and procedure. · Comfortable working with teams and civil society organizations. · Ability to work with MS office that includes word, excel, power point, etc Experience (the experience gained – including environment, timeframe and context) · Minimum 1-3 years in litigation / legal casework experience related to criminal side especially crime against women and children; · Language Pre-requisites Fluency in English, Hindi and Bengali/ Assamese (Speaking, Reading, and Writing).
